Senators push probe into China-linked troll farm accused of social media ops

Senators Sherwin Gatchalian and Francis Tolentino are pushing for a thorough investigation into InfinitUs Marketing Solutions, Inc. (IMSI), a Makati-based PR firm accused of operating a China-backed troll farm.

Senator Gatchalian has called on the National Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, and National Security Council to conduct a full-scale probe into IMSI's alleged activities.

Gatchalian emphasized that individuals involved in such operations should face prosecution for serious offenses, including treason, if proven true.

Senator Tolentino stated that IMSI's denials were unconvincing when confronted with documents suggesting a contract with the Chinese embassy for social media operations.

A Chinese-language document presented by Senator Tolentino detailed a PHP930,000 agreement for 'project publicity guidance,' which aligns with the amount on a check from the Chinese embassy.

Senator Tolentino advocated for holding accountable and prosecuting those who spread lies and distortions for personal gain and to undermine the country.
