Senators link POGOs to increased crime, call for ban

Senators have linked recent crimes, including the kidnapping of a foreign student, to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), identifying the industry as a significant source of criminal activity.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian renewed his strong appeal for the complete elimination of POGOs, warning that failure to act decisively could lead to more criminal operations targeting children.

Gatchalian commended law enforcement for the successful rescue of the student but stressed the need for full accountability for the perpetrators.

He expressed deep concern over reports of organized crime syndicates tied to POGOs preying on minors, calling the abduction a wake-up call.

The senator urged schools, parents, communities, and law enforcement agencies to collaborate on strengthening child protection programs and raising student awareness.

He emphasized that schools must work with parents and authorities to ensure security measures are in place to keep learners safe.
