Senate session suspended due to fire

A fire that broke out at the Senate building yesterday, November 30, led to the suspension of the December 1 plenary session.

The fire primarily affected the Legislative Technical Affairs Bureau office on the third floor, and water seepage from firefighting efforts impacted the session hall.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III stated that the fire did not affect any documents and firefighters contained the blaze at 7:43 a.m.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined.

The Senate session is now rescheduled to resume on Tuesday, December 2, at 1 p.m.

Senate offices will operate with skeleton staff or alternative work arrangements on Monday, with most employees excused from reporting to work.
