The Philippine Senate is considering filing its own charges against PhilHealth officials not included in the National Bureau of Investigation's (NBI) lawsuits.
Senator Panfilo Lacson stated that the Senate's options remain open to initiating cases against individuals not covered by the NBI's task force.
The NBI has filed graft and malversation complaints before the Office of the Ombudsman against several PhilHealth officials, including former president Ricardo Morales, over anomalies related to the Interim Reimbursement Mechanism (IRM).
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra affirmed that lawmakers are free to file their own criminal charges against erring PhilHealth officials, stating that both the executive and legislative branches are duty-bound to address corruption.
Guevarra also reiterated that more persons would be charged by the DOJ's Task Force PhilHealth as its investigation into the state insurer's affairs continues.
He added that as the task force probes deeper into fraud centers and builds cases, more names may be included and more complaints filed.
