Senate leaders back Cebu's swab-upon-arrival policy

Senate President Vicente Sotto III has urged the Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) to adopt Cebu's swab-upon-arrival policy for all travelers.

He believes the IATF's current seven to 10-day quarantine rule imposes an additional burden on Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), forcing them to spend time and money on hotels and accredited quarantine facilities.

Sotto specifically supports Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia's Executive Order No. 17 Series of 2021 and Provincial Ordinance No. 2021-04.

Under Cebu's policy, travelers arriving in the province are swabbed immediately upon arrival by the Department of Health (DOH).

If they test negative, they are allowed to proceed to their destination to complete their quarantine at home.

Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. also voiced his support for Cebu's ordinance.
