Escudero says Senate uses contempt powers judiciously

Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero asserted that the Senate is exercising its contempt powers with "absolute discretion" and only when absolutely necessary.

Escudero highlighted that numerous potential contempt citations are not pursued, indicating a careful and judicious application of the power.

The Senate has recently cited individuals involved in illegal POGO operations in Tarlac and Pampanga for contempt.

Notably, dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo was cited in contempt for the second time for allegedly not revealing her true identity.

Guo's fingerprints matched those of a Chinese national, Guo Hua Ping, further fueling concerns about her background.

Shiela Guo, who was identified as the dismissed mayor's sister, was also previously cited in contempt but her citation was later lifted, and she was ordered to be transferred to the Bureau of Immigration.
