Sen. Zubiri tests positive for COVID-19

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri tested positive for COVID-19, becoming the first Philippine senator to contract the virus.

He confirmed the result on Monday night after being informed by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, who suggested it might be a false positive and recommended a re-test.

Zubiri stated he is asymptomatic and has been in isolation, continuing his quarantine.

He believes he may have contracted the virus at the Senate, noting that his trip to Hong Kong with his wife in early January is not connected to his diagnosis.

His wife, Audrey, has tested negative for COVID-19, bringing him happiness that his family is safe.

Meanwhile, Senators Sherwin Gatchalian and Nancy Binay have tested negative for the virus.

Zubiri is willing to undergo another COVID-19 test if needed.
