Sen. Tulfo proposes separate commission for OFW labor disputes

Senator Raffy Tulfo has proposed Senate Bill No. 1480 to create a dedicated Migrant Workers Relations Commission (MWRC) to specifically handle labor disputes involving Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

The proposed MWRC aims to provide a more efficient and expedited resolution process for OFW complaints, distinct from the current system.

Currently, the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) handles labor disputes for both local and overseas workers, leading to significant backlogs and delays.

Tulfo highlighted that the NLRC processes over 30,000 cases annually, which makes OFW cases prone to lengthy procedures and adversely affects their pursuit of justice.

The establishment of a separate commission would allow OFWs to avoid the prolonged procedures typically associated with the NLRC.

This initiative seeks to address the challenges OFWs face in seeking timely justice due to the NLRC's extensive caseload.
