Senator Raffy Tulfo conducted a surprise inspection at the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) main office in Quezon City.
As the new chairman of the Senate committee on labor and employment, Tulfo met with workers who were victims of unfair labor practices to check on their situations and the status of their cases.
Among those he met were 28 former factory workers from W.L. Foods Corp. who claimed they were paid below minimum wage since 2010 and that their contributions to SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG were not remitted.
These workers had previously exposed W.L. Foods' illegal 'pakyawan' system during a previous inspection by Tulfo in May 2025.
Following the earlier inspection, W.L. Foods allegedly refused to renew their contracts, leading the workers to file illegal dismissal cases and demand back wages.
A previous complaint filed with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) did not result in a settlement, as the company's offer of P10,000 each was significantly less than the P100,000 the workers were entitled to.
