Sen. Legarda proposes P1,000 monthly medicine aid for seniors

Senator Loren Legarda has proposed Senate Bill No. 164, which seeks to provide senior citizens with P1,000 monthly financial support for maintenance medicines.

The bill, titled "Act Providing Monthly Maintenance Medication Support for Senior Citizens," aims to alleviate the financial strain on elderly Filipinos dealing with chronic illnesses.

Legarda stated that the initiative is intended to ensure senior citizens have access to affordable healthcare and necessary medications for their well-being.

The proposed measure includes a non-transferable, non-cashable monthly support card for eligible seniors who present a valid prescription.

Existing medicine discounts are often insufficient for older Filipinos, prompting this legislative action.

The bill also outlines penalties for fraud and abuse within the program.

Senator Legarda emphasized that this support is a form of recognition for the contributions of senior citizens and an affirmation of the State's commitment to their care.
