Sen. Bong Go urges strengthening of TVET programs to aid COVID-19 recovery

Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go is urging the government to strengthen technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programs to help Filipinos recover from the COVID-19 crisis and boost the economy.

Go emphasized that a skilled workforce will accelerate rural development and create more economic opportunities for Filipinos.

He specifically called on the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to update its provincial programs to align with the evolving needs of the countryside's business sector.

Senator Go also encouraged TESDA to collaborate with agencies like the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), as well as local government units (LGUs), to ensure skills training matches available jobs.

He highlighted the importance of preparing individuals for potential new special economic zones in the country.

TESDA is already aligning its programs and enhancing courses in agriculture, health, and construction, sectors expected to recover quickly post-outbreak.

The senator also supports the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) Program, which aims to decongest Manila, improve crisis response, and stimulate provincial economies by assisting Filipinos who wish to return to their hometowns.

The BP2 Program, institutionalized by Executive Order 114, includes provisions for transportation, livelihood, and support for small businesses.
