Sen. Angara warns PH economy may collapse with MECQ return

Senator Sonny Angara stated that the Philippine economy would likely collapse if Metro Manila reverts to a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

His statement comes amid concerns that Metro Manila might be placed under MECQ again due to the rising COVID-19 cases, which have already surpassed 85,000.

Angara believes that a lockdown approach is not sustainable and that the country should focus on learning to live with the virus rather than trying to avoid it.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque indicated that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) shares a similar view with Senator Angara.

NEDA Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillion mentioned that the government is working to balance economic recovery with strategies to combat COVID-19.
