SC allows e-filing for civil cases starting Sept 1

The Supreme Court (SC) has approved the implementation of electronic filing for civil cases in all first and second level courts nationwide, marking a significant step towards digitalization in the Philippine Judiciary.

Starting September 1, 2024, pleadings and other court submissions in civil cases must be accompanied by an electronic copy in PDF format sent via email, within 24 hours of the primary filing.

The SC spokesperson, Camille Ting, mentioned that the electronic transmittal requirement may be waived if accompanying documents cannot be easily converted to PDF or if they are sealed and confidential.

The ultimate goal is to make electronic filing the sole mandatory mode of filing by December 1, 2024.

From December 1, outbound court documents within a certified judicial region will primarily be served through email, with the exception of summons which will still require personal or substituted service as per the Rules of Court.
