SC stops closure of MSU College of Law

The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) halting the planned closure of the Mindanao State University (MSU) College of Law and the cancellation of its accreditation starting the 2025-2026 school year.

The SC's order also prevents the Legal Education Board (LEB) from prohibiting MSU from opening its law programs in its Tawi-Tawi, Sulu, and Maguindanao campuses.

This TRO was granted in response to separate petitions filed by MSU and Abdul Rahman Ltiph Nasser.

The High Court has directed both the LEB and MSU to submit their respective memoranda of authorities within 15 days regarding the impact of Article IX, Section 16 of the Bangsamoro Organic Law on the LEB's jurisdiction over MSU.

The LEB, established in 1993, is tasked with administering and regulating legal education in the Philippines.

MSU had previously contested the LEB's supervisory authority over its College of Law, asserting that it is not bound by the LEB's directives.
