The Supreme Court (SC) has given the government 24 hours to explain why a peremptory writ of habeas corpus should not be issued for the release of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The SC unanimously consolidated three habeas corpus petitions filed by Duterte's children: Mayor Sebastian Duterte, Rep. Paolo Duterte, and Veronica Duterte.
Respondents named in the consolidated petitions include Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, DILG Secretary Juan Victor Remulla Jr., PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil, and CIDG chief Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
Other respondents include Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra, DFA Secretary Enrique Manalo, AFP chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., former Immigration commissioner Norman Tansingco, PCTC executive director Antonio Alcantara, and Capt. Johnny Gulla.
The Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) will submit its reply to the SC on Monday, March 17, as the deadline falls on a weekend.
