SC orders dismissal, disbarment of judge linked to murder of fellow judge

The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the dismissal and disbarment of Judge Oscar Tomarong for his involvement in the murder of fellow judge Reymar Lacaya in 2019.

Tomarong was found guilty of a crime involving moral turpitude and gross immorality.

The SC emphasized that murder is among the gravest offenses warranting dismissal from service.

In 2022, Tomarong was found guilty of murder and sentenced to reclusion perpetua.

He was also ordered to pay the victim's heirs over P9.2 million in damages, including for loss of earning capacity.

Tomarong will forfeit his retirement benefits, except for accrued leave benefits, and is permanently disqualified from government employment.
