The Supreme Court (SC) has reversed a Commission on Elections (Comelec) ruling that disqualified Caloocan City 2nd District Rep. Edgar Erice from running in the 2025 elections.
The SC granted Erice's petition, challenging the Comelec's resolution which disqualified him for allegedly spreading false and alarming information regarding Miru Systems' automated election system.
The high court also dismissed a separate disqualification petition filed against Erice by Raymond Salipot.
The Comelec had previously affirmed a decision to disqualify Erice for questioning the credibility of the South Korean firm's system.
The SC stated that the Comelec exceeded its jurisdiction by ruling Erice guilty of violating the Omnibus Election Code and imposing a disqualification penalty.
