SC issues TRO on cases vs ex-Cebu administrator over garbage collection deal
The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the Sandiganbayan, halting proceedings on graft and malversation charges against former Cebu City administrator Floro Casas Jr. concerning a P239 million garbage collection anomaly.
The TRO was issued by the SC First Division and will take effect once Casas posts a P1 million bond.
The charges against Casas and seven others stemmed from a February finding of probable cause by the Office of the Ombudsman for violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and malversation of public funds.
Casas had filed a petition for certiorari with an urgent prayer for a TRO after the Ombudsman denied his partial motion for reconsideration in October.
Despite the issuance of the TRO, the SC noted that Casas' petition is still under evaluation.
