SAP payout deadline extended to May 10

As of May 6, 828 local government units (LGUs) had finished distributing the first tranche of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) payouts.

The deadline for SAP distribution has been extended to May 10, with no further extensions to be granted.

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año granted additional days for Metro Manila LGUs to complete the distribution due to the populous region.

He commended the 985 LGUs that met the original deadline and acknowledged challenges faced by densely populated areas like Metro Manila, Cavite, Rizal, Laguna, Bulacan, Cebu, and Davao City.

Nationwide, 77.68 percent of intended beneficiaries had received their SAP as of May 6, with Caraga Region having the highest payout rate at 99.88 percent.

Año also ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to exempt SAP distributors and recipients from local curfews.

The DILG will issue show-cause orders to LGUs that fail to comply with the new deadline, emphasizing that the poor cannot wait any longer for their financial aid.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will validate the distribution within 15 days after the payout to ensure correct beneficiaries and prevent duplicate payments.

LGUs that have completed their distribution are still urged to liquidate and account for the funds received from the DSWD.
