San Juan starts COVID booster shots for seniors, PWDs

San Juan City has begun administering additional and booster COVID-19 vaccination doses to senior citizens and individuals with comorbidities.

An estimated 2,000 senior citizens received their booster shots on the first day of the program, exceeding initial expectations of 1,000.

Mayor Francis Zamora highlighted that the city has vaccinated over 240% of its target population.

Qualified residents must preregister through vaxreg.sanjuancity.gov.ph and await confirmation before proceeding to vaccination sites, as walk-ins are not permitted.

The city government had previously started administering booster shots to healthcare workers.

The initiative aims to provide additional protection as the holiday season approaches and quarantine restrictions ease.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire clarified that booster shots are for waning immunity, while additional doses are for those who cannot mount an adequate immune response.
