San Juan City has been officially recognized as the first drug-cleared city in the National Capital Region by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
The city received its Certificate of Recognition on June 19 during the Regional Peace and Order Council-National Capital Region's second full council meeting in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.
This recognition was awarded by PDEA-NCR Regional Director Emerson Rosales to Mayor Francis Zamora in the presence of Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
The city achieved this status after all its barangays were declared drug-cleared in 2023, meeting stringent criteria.
Mayor Zamora attributed the achievement to the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including the San Juan Police, barangay officials, and the community.
He stressed that the city's commitment to combating illegal drugs is ongoing, with continued focus on enforcement, rehabilitation, and preventive education.
San Juan City also holds the distinction of having the lowest crime volume in Metro Manila.
