Sabrina Carpenter to star in new Alice in Wonderland musical film

Pop artist Sabrina Carpenter will star in and co-produce a new musical film adaptation of "Alice in Wonderland" for Universal Pictures.

Lorene Scafaria, known for "Hustlers" and "Succession," will write and direct the project, described as a "passion project" for Carpenter.

Producer Marc Platt, of "Wicked" fame, has also joined the film.

While specific plot details and a release date remain undisclosed, Carpenter reportedly approached Universal with the idea about a year ago.

This adaptation of the classic 1865 novel adds to its many previous inspirations, including Disney's animated film and Tim Burton's live-action movie.

Carpenter, who has acting experience in "The Hate U Give" and "Clouds," is also slated to headline Coachella in 2026.
