Ronald Chavez Jr. eliminated from World Boxing Championships

Filipino boxer Ronald Chavez Jr. was eliminated from the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, England, losing to France's Makan Traore via a 5-0 decision in the round-of-16 men's 70-kilogram division.

The 26-year-old Chavez, son of Olympic boxer Ronald Chavez and legendary volleyball player Nene Ybañez-Chavez, lost to the 24-year-old French boxer, a bronze medalist in the 2023 European Games.

Chavez's exit marks the fourth Filipino elimination in the tournament, following Carlo Paalam, Mark Ashley Fajardo, and Junmilardo Ogayre.

Paalam was defeated in the men's 55-kg class, Ogayre in the men's 60-kg division, and Fajardo in the men's 65-kg category.

Riza Pasuit and Jay Bryan Baricuatro remain the only Filipinos competing in the tournament, which serves as a warmup for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games.
