Robredo says Duterte's order to detain mask violators is counterproductive

She argued that jailing people for mask violations would worsen the already overcrowded jail situation, making it counterproductive to the goal of public protection.

The Vice President believes that the default response should be to teach and guide individuals on proper mask usage.

President Duterte's order last week aimed to penalize those who violate mask-wearing protocols.

The Commission on Human Rights has previously cautioned that such an order could lead to abuse and excessive discretion by law enforcement.
