Robredo: Emergency powers the default solution

Vice President Leni Robredo stated that granting emergency powers to President Rodrigo Duterte has become a default solution to the country's problems.

Robredo expressed concern that this has become the usual response instead of thoroughly investigating and finding proper solutions.

Her statement came after a House panel sought emergency powers for Duterte to address the alleged corruption within the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

She noted that Duterte had previously sought emergency powers for transportation issues and infrastructure projects, and was also granted additional powers to combat COVID-19.

Robredo highlighted that several legislators agree that emergency powers are not necessary to resolve the PhilHealth scandal.

She lamented the situation at PhilHealth, emphasizing that the funds misused were contributed by ordinary workers from their monthly salaries.
