Former U.S. Navy man nabbed for gun ban violation
A 66-year-old retired US Navy serviceman was apprehended at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Monday for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.
The Taguig City resident was found to be in possession of two airguns without proper documentation after airport screening personnel detected them via an X-ray scan of his balikbayan box.
He was attempting to board a domestic flight when he was arrested by the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP).
PNP-AVSEGROUP Director Brig. Gen. Christopher M. Abecia stated that imitation or replica firearms that substantially resemble real guns are also prohibited under the gun ban.
The Comelec gun ban is in effect from January 12 to June 11, 2025, restricting firearm possession to authorized law enforcement personnel.
The suspect remains in police custody as charges are prepared.
