Rep Leviste acquires Solidaridad bookshop

Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste, son of Senator Loren Legarda, has acquired ownership of the renowned Solidaridad bookshop.

The bookshop, founded by National Artist for Literature F. Sionil Jose in 1965, was put up for sale in July.

Leviste's investment aims to sustain Solidaridad's operations and uphold F. Sionil Jose's legacy, with the continued advice of the Jose family.

The Jose family expressed gratitude and optimism for the transition, with F. Sionil Jose's son, Antonio "Tonet" Jose, stating they are excited for the new ownership to continue the legacy.

Solidaridad, known for its extensive collection of Filipiniana books, has been a significant venue for local literary and intellectual works for 60 years.

F. Sionil Jose and his wife Teresita Jovellanos Jose died in 2022, and the bookshop had been managed by their eldest son, Antonio "Tonet" Jose.
