Rep. Chua: Next DepEd chief must be teacher with problem-solving skills

Manila Rep. Joel Chua stated that the next Department of Education (DepEd) secretary should be a genuine teacher with proven problem-solving skills.

Chua's suggestion comes after Vice President Sara Duterte resigned from her position as DepEd chief.

He emphasized that the ideal candidate should have a background as a successful public school classroom teacher in basic education.

The congressman believes the next leader of DepEd must be an outstanding teacher, a capable manager, and possess multidisciplinary experience.

Chua urged Malacañang to look for candidates among recipients of prestigious awards for public school teachers, such as the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award, CSC Dangal ng Bayan Award, Ten Outstanding Filipinos Award, TOYM Award, and the Metrobank Outstanding Teacher Award.

He also called for the Matatag curriculum to be put on hold and for an end to alleged "brainwashing" and "politically motivated bullying" within DepEd.
