Rep. Cendaña: House Bill 6771 legitimizes political dynasties

Opposition lawmaker Rep. Perci Cendaña asserts that House Bill 6771, filed by Speaker Faustino Dy III and Rep. Sandro Marcos, would legitimize political dynasties rather than curb them.

The proposed bill prohibits family members from holding elective posts within the same cluster of government levels.

Critics argue this measure would still permit relatives to simultaneously hold positions in different clusters, such as president and congressman.

Cendaña stated that the bill does not curb political dynasties but legitimizes them at certain levels of government within defined limits.

He also mentioned that the bill seems to go against the spirit of the Constitution and public demand against political dynasties.

Cendaña described the bill as a 'compromise' that preserves the same political arrangements under a legal framework, instead of decisively restricting dynastic control.
