Rep. Castro condemns China's floating barriers at Scarborough Shoal

ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro condemned China's installation of floating barriers at Scarborough Shoal, calling it a violation of Philippine sovereignty and a hindrance to Filipino fishermen's livelihood.

Castro asserted that these barriers are an aggressive and expansionist move by China in the West Philippine Sea.

She highlighted that the barriers unjustly prevent Filipino fishermen from accessing their traditional fishing grounds, which they have relied on for generations.

The lawmaker stated that this action deprives fishermen of their right to earn a living and undermines national sovereignty.

Responding to China's accusation that the Philippines was intruding in Scarborough Shoal without permission, Castro stated, "Excuse me, it is the Chinese government who is intruding in our territory and exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Now they have the temerity to say that we need our permission for our fisherfolk to fish in our own waters."

Castro urged the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to take diplomatic action to assert sovereignty and defend the rights of Filipino fisherfolk.

She added that China should "wake up from its delusion and face reality" as the Philippines has every right to protect its territorial integrity.
