Rep. Brosas files bill declaring Aug 14 as National Memorial Day for Comfort Women

Gabriela party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas filed House Bill No. 8859, proposing August 14 as the National Memorial Day for Comfort Women to commemorate the suffering of Filipino women during World War II.

The bill aims to honor the bravery and resilience of comfort women and raise awareness about the atrocities they endured, ensuring their hardships are remembered by current and future generations.

Brosas stated that comfort women were victims of sexual violence and exploitation, subjected to unimaginable suffering and trauma.

The proposed memorial day will serve as a reminder to uphold human rights and stand against all forms of violence and exploitation.

Brosas emphasized the need for the Philippine government to actively assist and support comfort women in their fight for justice from the Japanese government.
