Recto wants teachers prioritized for COVID-19 vaccine

Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto proposed prioritizing teachers for COVID-19 vaccination in the Philippines after healthcare workers.

Recto argued that reopening schools is crucial for the economy and should precede the reopening of other establishments.

Testing czar Vince Dizon acknowledged that teachers are considered essential workers and assured Recto's suggestion would be seriously considered by the technical working group.

However, teachers are not part of the top 5 priority groups, which include health workers, senior citizens, poor Filipinos, and uniformed personnel.

Teachers, along with children and other essential workers, are part of target groups to be considered once the government secures additional vaccine deals.
