QC Mayor suspends classes for SONA

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte declared the suspension of classes at all levels in private schools on Monday, July 22, 2024, coinciding with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr.'s third State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The suspension aims to allow residents to listen to the president's speech and to minimize the impact of road closures and anticipated heavy traffic, especially with various activist groups planning protests.

Brigada Eskwela activities in public schools will also be suspended on SONA Day.

The city government also implemented a liquor ban in Quezon City on Monday, from 12:01 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) deployed over 22,000 policemen, with thousands more as augmentation forces, to maintain security during the SONA.

A nationwide gun ban was enforced from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, with the gun ban in Metro Manila in effect from July 20 to July 23.
