Quezon City opens new quarantine facilities to ease hospital burden

Quezon City has opened new quarantine facilities to accommodate mild and asymptomatic COVID-19 cases as local hospitals approach full occupancy.

The Quezon City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU) stated that these new facilities, referred to as HOPE facilities, are intended to decongest hospitals.

Dr. Rolando Cruz, head of CESU, explained that patients with mild symptoms or those who are asymptomatic will be admitted to these quarantine centers instead of hospitals.

He also noted that many infected patients from other cities are being admitted to Quezon City's health facilities, contributing to the strain on hospital capacity.

Previously, the Department of Health reported that some hospitals in Quezon City, Makati City, and Taguig City were at high risk due to COVID-19 bed occupancy rates reaching 80% to 85%.
