QC mayor urges vax as data shows unvaccinated most affected

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte urged residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19, citing data that shows unvaccinated individuals are disproportionately affected by the virus.

Data from the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU) revealed that 70% of active COVID-19 cases in Quezon City between August 8 to 21 were unvaccinated.

Of the active cases during the same period, 18% were fully vaccinated and 12% were partially vaccinated.

Dr. Rolando Cruz, CESU chief, stated that vaccines are highly effective in preventing hospitalization, with fully vaccinated patients often being asymptomatic.

Among fully vaccinated individuals with COVID-19, 1,031 were asymptomatic, 349 had mild symptoms, and 33 had moderate symptoms, with no severe or critical cases reported.

Three infected senior citizens with comorbidities and one partially vaccinated individual died during the August 8-21 period.

Mayor Belmonte emphasized that the vaccine data proves the effectiveness of vaccines regardless of brand and encouraged more residents to register for the vaccination program.

As of August 24, Quezon City had administered 2,271,833 vaccine doses to residents and workers.
