QC flags P14B DPWH flood control projects for alleged waste

The Quezon City government has flagged over PHP14 billion worth of flood control projects by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) from 2021 to 2025.

Mayor Joy Belmonte expressed frustration over these projects, stating that billions of pesos are being wasted and that a significant number were implemented without permits and coordination from the local government.

An audit of 1,652 DPWH projects revealed that only 315 were submitted for a certificate of coordination.

Concerns were raised about incorrect project locations, suspiciously similar contract costs, and projects declared complete but still under construction.

City Engineer Mark Dale Peral reported that out of 93 inspected flood control projects, 43 were verified as completed, five were declared completed but still ongoing, and 45 were ongoing.

Belmonte suggested that the wasted funds could have been sufficient to address the city's flooding problem if there was genuine political will.
