QC gov't claims SCLs effective in controlling COVID-19 spread

The Quezon City government asserts that its special concern lockdown (SCL) strategy has been effective in controlling the spread of COVID-19 by enabling the early detection and isolation of positive cases in high-risk communities.

Dr. Rolly Cruz, head of the QC-Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, stated that SCLs allow for the immediate transfer of positive cases to care facilities or hospitals, preventing further community transmission.

As of June 5, rapid testing was conducted on 4,013 residents from SCL areas, resulting in 240 positive for IGg and IGM, with subsequent confirmatory swab testing identifying 53 positive cases.

Assistant City Administrator Alberto Kimpo highlighted that the SCL strategy allows for a targeted and scientific approach to focus health resources on areas with identified case clusters.

The QC government has lifted SCLs in several barangays, including parts of Batasan Hills, Culiat, Sauyo, Tatalon, and Baesa, after completing the lockdown period without new case discoveries.

Currently, areas under SCL include Sitio Militar in Barangay Bahay Toro, Calle 29 in Barangay Libis, and Kaingin Bukid in Barangay Apolonio Samson.

The city government is actively coordinating with barangays to implement SCLs in areas reporting an increase in COVID-19 cases, particularly in densely populated communities.
