PVL holds first rookie draft with 23 players selected

The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) successfully held its first-ever Rookie Draft on July 8, 2024, with 23 out of 47 aspirants selected by the 12 participating teams.

Thea Gagate, a former La Salle standout and Alas Pilipinas player, was the anticipated top pick.

Drafted rookies are expected to sign contracts within 15 days of their selection, with teams having until July 23 to present qualifying offers.

The PVL has established a rookie salary scale, with the No. 1 pick receiving P150,000, followed by P135,000 for the 2nd pick, P120,000 for the 3rd, and P110,000 for the 4th, while picks 5th to 12th will have a minimum of P50,000 up to P100,000.

First-round picks must receive a minimum three-year offer, while subsequent round picks will get at least a one-year contract.

PVL president Ricky Palou stated that teams retain the rights to drafted players if they comply with the rules, even if a deal is not reached, preventing players from becoming free agents.
