PSEi rebounds to 7,000-level after BSP rate cut

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) climbed back to the 7,000-level on Friday, boosted by a surprise 25 basis point cut in the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' (BSP) key rates.

The main stocks gauge rose by 2.46 percent, or 172.17 points, to close at 7,169.79 points.

All sectoral counters also finished the trade with gains, led by Mining and Oil, which jumped by 2.88 percent.

Investors bought up shares partly due to hopes that Washington lawmakers could still pass a coronavirus aid relief package.

The Philippine peso ended the week sideways to the US dollar, closing at 48.23 from the previous day's 48.315.

Trading volume reached PHP10.94 billion, with 159 issues advancing against 66 decliners.
