PSEi climbs 0.08% as investors await economic data

Philippine stocks saw a slight increase on Tuesday, with the PSEi closing marginally higher as the market awaited key economic data releases.

The PSEi gained 0.08% or 5.11 points to settle at 5,994.40 on Tuesday, while the all shares index experienced a decrease of 1.92% or 68.28 points.

Improved sentiment was attributed to the better-than-expected producer price index (PPI) for manufacturing, which slowed to a 0.3% year-on-year increase in October.

On Friday, the PSEi regained its hold on the 5,900 level, closing 1.05 percent or 61.64 points higher at 5,949.22, as the country recorded cooler inflation.

The November inflation rate came in at 1.5 percent, declining from the prior month's 1.7 percent, which is seen to help household consumption and give the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas more room to ease monetary policies.

The broader All Shares also closed the trading week in the positive territory, jumping 0.55 percent or 19.03 points to 3,477.68.

International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) led the gains, soaring by 6.63 percent to P587.
