PSC chairman lauds women athletes' contribution to sports development

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Richard Bachmann highlighted the significant contribution of women athletes to the country's sports development agenda during the first Women in Sports Awards.

He emphasized that the community of champions built by these women athletes is crucial for advancing platforms for all athletes.

Tennis sensation Alex Eala and national football team standout Sarina Bolden were named Athletes of the Year.

Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo received the Flame Award, while world 10-ball champion Chezka Centeno and Asian weightlifting silver medalist Vanessa Sarno were also among the major awardees.

Forty-six other Filipina achievers, including sports executives, coaches, nutritionists, trainers, and sports psychologists, were recognized for their contributions.

PSC Commissioner Olivia "Bong" Coo, a former bowling champion, was among the seven recipients of the WIS Lifetime Achievement Award.

Senator Christopher "Bong" Go also expressed similar sentiments during the event, which was organized by the PSC and the Philippine Commission on Women and coincided with International Women's Month.
