Provincial buses need LGU approval to resume operations

Provincial buses will remain suspended until they secure approval from the local government units (LGUs) they will pass through, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced.

DOTr Road Sector Senior Consultant Engr. Bert Suansing stated that obtaining clearance from LGUs is a necessary requirement for provincial bus operations to resume.

The application for this clearance will be coordinated with the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Provincial buses were initially slated to resume operations on June 22 as part of the second phase of public transport revival.

The DOTr is already implementing the second phase, having opened 28 city bus routes and several point-to-point (P2P) bus routes.

As of June 18, 27 out of 31 city bus routes have been launched by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to accommodate commuters.

Three more city bus routes are scheduled to open on June 19, with the LTFRB aiming to launch all 32 rationalized routes before the full implementation of the second phase.
