PRO-5 to deploy 3,000 cops for Peñafrancia Festival

The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) will deploy over 3,000 police officers to secure the upcoming Peñafrancia Festival in Naga City.

PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Nestor Babagay Jr. stated that preparations are nearing completion, emphasizing a comprehensive security plan that includes traffic management.

He noted that an estimated two million pilgrims and tourists are expected, a significant increase from the previously projected 1.5 million.

The security effort will involve a whole-of-government approach, with collaboration from various agencies.

The Peñafrancia Festival's centerpiece, the fluvial procession, is scheduled for the second and third weeks of September.

Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo requested heightened security coverage to ensure the safety of pilgrims.

All vital installations will be secured as directed by Philippine National Police chief Gen. Melencio Nartatez Jr.

The city government has also reactivated the Peñafrancia Joint Operations Center to serve as the central command hub.
