Presidential bets call for Filipino safety in Ukraine amid Russia invasion

Presidential candidates are urging the Philippine government to prioritize the safety of Filipinos in Ukraine following Russia's invasion.

Vice President Leni Robredo emphasized the need for well-prepared evacuation plans for Filipinos in Ukraine, numbering over 300, given the unpredictable nature of the conflict.

Robredo noted that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has offered repatriation, but only a few Filipinos in Ukraine wish to return due to concerns about job security.

Both Robredo and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno advised the government to prepare for potential economic repercussions of the war, such as the impact on global oil prices and other product costs.

As of Thursday, February 24, 2022, Russia has continued its advance into Ukraine, bombing military targets, with at least 7 reported deaths.
