PBBM vows internet for all public schools by end of 2025

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. pledged that all public schools in the Philippines currently lacking internet access will be connected by the end of 2025.

During his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA), Marcos highlighted that approximately 12,000 public schools lack internet connectivity.

He assured that the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of Education (DepEd) are working to ensure internet access for all public schools before the year concludes.

The President cited the completion of phases 1, 2, and 3 of the National Fiber Backbone project and the expansion of the DICT's free Wi-Fi project as key developments.

He noted that the number of free Wi-Fi sites has increased from around 4,000 in June 2022 to almost 19,000 nationwide.

The distribution of over one million free SIM cards with free data to schools in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) has also commenced.
