PRC on full alert, deploys assets for Taal eruption victims

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is on full alert and has mobilized its assets to provide assistance to those affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano.

PRC Chairman Senator Richard Gordon reported the deployment of five ambulances and two water tankers, along with welfare desks, and has appealed for public and corporate donations.

The organization is preparing face masks, hot meals, and rescue vehicles for evacuees, and has set up a hotline for emergencies.

As of Wednesday, the PRC has distributed 5,000 pieces of N95 masks, provided hot meals to 1,750 individuals, and distributed potable water to 800 individuals.

Gordon warned that volcanic ash is harmful to health, especially for those with respiratory diseases, and advised residents to take precautionary measures.

He also warned that volcanic ash is abrasive, mildly corrosive, can conduct electricity when wet, and that ash accumulation on roofs poses a danger of collapse during rain.

PRC has extended help in the evacuation of 132 individuals in Batangas and Cavite, and distributed food and essential items like sleeping mats and blankets.
