PPA: No COVID-19 cases among quarantined seafarers and OFWs

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) confirmed that there are no COVID-19 cases among the seafarers and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) currently quarantining on 2GO Group Inc. vessels.

PPA General Manager Jay Santiago stated that the Eva Macapagal Super Terminal (EMST), a treatment facility prepared for repatriates who test positive, has not yet been occupied.

Santiago highlighted this as good news, indicating that no individuals on the quarantine vessels have tested positive or exhibited symptoms of the disease.

The EMST is designed as an intermediate treatment facility for COVID-19 positive patients before they are transferred to a hospital.

This treatment facility, located at Pier 15, was established to increase COVID-19 treatment capacity in Metro Manila.

The EMST has 211 cubicles for patients with varying infection severity and is equipped with hospital beds, portable toilets, showers, and open-air dining facilities.

The Philippine Coast Guard Medical Group will supervise the facility, adhering to quarantine guidelines from the Bureau of Quarantine and the Department of Health.
