Police kill hostage-taker, rescue 6-year-old girl in Marawi

A hostage-taker was killed by police in Marawi City early Sunday morning after he abducted and threatened a six-year-old girl with a knife.

The suspect, believed to be under the influence of illegal drugs, forcibly entered the victim's home and held her at knifepoint.

A police officer, who was jogging in the area, initially attempted to negotiate the girl's release.

The situation escalated when more police officers arrived, leading the suspect to become aggressive and harm the child.

Responding authorities shot the suspect, who later died from his injuries.

The rescued six-year-old girl sustained injuries to her face and arm but is now safe and receiving treatment.

Authorities are investigating the incident and trying to identify the suspect, as local residents did not recognize him.
