Police chief pays for stolen baby milk, frees single father

A single father was apprehended in Tabuk City, Kalinga, for allegedly stealing a 1.7-kilo box of baby milk from a supermarket on October 30.

The unemployed father, who is raising his child alone after his wife left, stated he took the milk out of desperation.

Instead of filing charges, the Tabuk City police chief, Lt. Col. Jack Angog, paid for the stolen item to settle the matter.

The father was then freed and given a chance to start over.

The head of the Philippine National Police praised Lt. Col. Angog for "showing compassion while upholding the rule of law" and reflecting the "human side of policing."
