POC urges PSC to release curling team incentives

Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham Tolentino urged the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) not to delay the release of cash incentives for the national curling team who won a historic gold medal at the 9th Asian Winter Games over 10 weeks ago.

Tolentino questioned the delay, stating it is hurting the momentum of the team's victory, which was the first for the Philippines and any Southeast Asian nation in winter sports.

He emphasized that the gold medal is a springboard for a potential gold in next year's Winter Olympics.

The men's curling team, composed of Marc Pfister, Enrico Pfister, Alan Frei, Christian Haller, and Benjo Delarmente, defeated South Korea 5-3 in the finals on February 14.

Tolentino highlighted that the team competed at their own expense before their historic success.

The POC had previously provided each athlete with $5,000 when they returned to the country after their victory.
